whatever you put in the body that is not your own live tissue, it rejects it and builds up antibodies to it. that is why bone grafts made from bovine and pigs or dead human bone doesn%26#039;t work well and doesn%26#039;t last indefinitely. it is also why dental implants are said to last only 15 years or so and why breast implants have to be changed every 10 yrs. the body encapsulates things that are foreign, keeping it apart from the rest of the body to avoid infection and poisoning. in the case with dental impants and such, the bone grows around the area, but later, because of antibodies the body makes, it pulls away.
but, they are trying to make teeth from our own teeth and have been working on this for years.

Regrowing Teeth
Researchers are finding ways to use stem cells to regrow teeth--a potentially easier and healthier alternative to dentures and dental implants.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the average American will lose about eight teeth by the time he or she turns 50. Common replacements include dentures, which have been known to erode the underlying bone over time, and dental implants, which are prone to falling out after several years%26#039; use. Thus, the ability to regrow a natural tooth, with the accompanying bone, root, and nerves, could provide a significantly healthier alternative for many.
Recently, a Japanese team from the Tokyo University of Science, led by associate professor Takashi Tsuji, reported in Nature Methods that it had successfully regrown a tooth from cells extracted from mouse embryos. The researchers were able to transplant the tooth into an adult mouse, and the tooth bud continued to grow to full size.
Teeth in mice, much like those in humans, form during embryonic development from two major cell types: epithelial and mesenchymal. Epithelial cells give rise to the outer enamel, while mesenchymal cells form a tooth%26#039;s inner connective tissue and blood vessels. Takashi%26#039;s team isolated both kinds of cells from multiple mouse embryos, then transferred them to a collagen gel culture, in which the cells interacted to form a tooth bud. Researchers then transplanted the bud into the liver of an adult mouse, where the increased blood supply aided further tooth formation. Finally, Takashi inserted the tooth into an empty cavity within the mouse%26#039;s mouth, in which it grew to full size.
Whether the technique will be practical for regrowing teeth is uncertain. Paul Sharpe, head of the Craniofacial Development Department at King%26#039;s College, in London, doubts that the technique will be useful for humans, particularly since the Tokyo team used embryonic cells, which are difficult to obtain in large numbers and may be rejected as a foreign substance when transplanted into a human adult.
A better approach, Sharpe suggests, may be to use adult stem cells, which can be obtained from a patient%26#039;s hair, skin, or other tissue; manipulated with the right molecular cues to form any kind of tissue; then transplanted back into the same person with less rejection problems.. Sharpe%26#039;s lab is looking for adult stem cells, including those found in bone marrow and dental gum, as possible candidates for regrowing teeth. So far, he and his colleagues have had success with bone-marrow stem cells, forming teeth and transplanting them into mouse cavities. However, Sharpe says that obtaining such cells from human bone marrow is a painful process. In the next three years, he hopes to identify more-accessible stem cells that may be able to form not only teeth, but also--and more important--roots.

Indeed, a group of researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) recently regrew tooth roots in pigs using adult stem cells from wisdom teeth. The team, led by Songtao Shi, assistant professor of USC%26#039;s School of Dentistry, isolated stem cells from the extracted wisdom teeth of 18-to-20-year-old humans. From these cells, the researchers successfully recreated a tooth%26#039;s root and periodontal ligament, which, when transplanted into the oral cavity of a pig, could support a synthetic crown. Shi says it is a promising start, and his team hopes to begin human trials within the next few years. Eventually, he envisions being able to isolate stem cells from sources such as wisdom teeth, then store them for future use should the patient require dental attention down the line.
In the next few years, Shi, Sharpe, and others anticipate great strides in the area of tooth regeneration. As Sharpe sees it, the work being done in his field may help researchers in other areas of tissue engineering.

Did you have to send them all to some place... if so, where? My dentist wouldnt tell me where they were going, and I%26#039;m curious as to what became of them, and why they were in my mouth. I%26#039;m also hoping I can get them back... for my own studies.

I can%26#039;t remember where I read this, it was a long time ago, but I read that the shape, placement, and limited ability of our teeth prove scientifically that we are not meant to eat meat.
Our teeth are flat and dull, ideal for tearing and chewing leaves, and our teeth closely compare to all animals who share our (vegetarian) diets, such as horses, giraffes...ect.
Not to mention the fact that all meat eating animals are able to digest raw meat, while we are unable to. And they have razor sharp teeth made for killing without the use of a weapon and tearing animal flesh.

It is funny how some people admit apes and monkeys are genetically very close to us and give that as a reason for cruel medical testing on these animals - but when it comes to teeth they say we%26#039;re different. They also seem to forget how smart and social these animals are, which results in a great psychological, as well as physical suffering of the poor lab animals.
Not only teeth, also the digestive system of humans is designed for plant food. The enzymes in our stomach and intestines are different to those of carnivorous animals and our intestines are very long and the meat does not only take very long to go through, but also begins decaying within our bodies, before it is secreted.
Humans (as well as Neanderthals, for that matter), had to eat meat to (try to) survive the Ice Age. Luckily, by then they knew how to use fire, so they cold cook the meat - as we cannot digest raw meat very well.
This is proven by the cave paintings - do you know of any human hunting activities before the Ice Age?
Now Ice Age was a kind of a natural catastrophe and special measures had to be taken in order to survive. But humans continue to eat meat!

I think that humans, today, eat far to much meat. Not only teeth, also the digestive system of humans is designed for plant food. Cornell university cat veterinarian encyclopedia says that the mechanism of tooth decay of cats and humans are quite different. I wonder if sugar is bad for cats%26#039; teeth. My cats loves icecream and come to beg when I%26#039;m eating, so I just give them a tiny spoonful, or just put on my finger and let them lick it. I wonder if I should brush their teeth soon after that, and that they shouldn%26#039;t be fed anything like that when I%26#039;m out of town. One of them also likes milk, yogurt etc. I know cats can%26#039;t digest lactose so I don%26#039;t give regular milk so much: just a spoonful. Medical and chiropractic schools have sets of bones, including full sets of teeth, that are donated by people who choose donate their body to science after they die. In learning centers or libraries of these programs they have teeth on reserve that you can %26quot;sign out%26quot; like books and study. The latter option is to buy a set yourself online from medical catalogs that are ridiculously expensive (yes, they are legal and do exist.) Collecting one or two teeth from your friends is probably not going to help you much.

Can I brush my dog's teeth with human tooth paste?
Ive always brushed his teeth with the tooth paste the vet gave me but its just not working. He as acid reflux probelms and he is being treated for that but he breathe stinks!
Ive tried chicken flavored, Ive tried mint flavored
nothing is working
Ive also been giving him dog treats for his breath
like parsley flavored treats and yip yap mints
and i feed him bland vet food for his food allergies
at first i thought it was bad teeth but the vet checked them out
and his teeth are fine
so my last resort, that i know of, is human tooth paste.
i know that it is not recommended because of the baking soda or something...
but i dont know what else to do

What you need to do to correct this problem and make him feel better is to switch his food. He doesn%26#039;t need to be put on a bland food, just food without the allergy causing agent in it
Try California Natural. It has very few ingredients, so that way you can pinpoint what it is exactly he is allergic to.

My male jack russell has a sensitive stomach and bad gas all of the time, well since the colloidal silver he rarely has gas. Also, my parents dog has permanent bodily yeast and bacterial infection, he smells really bad, and his eyes get infected all of the time and goo up. My parents started giving him colloidal silver on his treats, a quirt in the mouth from the dropper, and rub it on him after a bath. He doesn%26#039;t smell anymore and doesn%26#039;t really itch, it%26#039;s amazing. Colloidal Silver is what doctors put in babies%26#039; eyes right after they are born just in case the mother had an std or some other infection. Good luck!

If his teeth are clean with little to no plaque, then the problem might lay elsewhere. You said he has reflux problems, that could be where the problem is. Let your vet know and tell him what you have tried to eliminate the problem. He could have a simple suggestion you haven%26#039;t tried to help ease the problem.

Reply:the reason for no human paste is that ours has detergents in it that can be harmful if swallowed esp. in larger amounts. which is the purpose in training toothpastes for kids. like the little bear brand, which is what i would do if i had to. however i would also schedule a tooth cleaning with the vet, and get oravet if the budget allows for it. my dachsie is good, but my manchester gets terrible breath, so i sympathize!

I have never seen anyone with teeth that are perfectly straight that hasn%26#039;t had braces and that made me wonder are human teeth supposed to be straight.

If a person fails to regularly wear the retainer after the braces are removed the ligaments will attempt to pull the teeth back to their original position.
