Using cow teeth to make human teeth?

whatever you put in the body that is not your own live tissue, it rejects it and builds up antibodies to it. that is why bone grafts made from bovine and pigs or dead human bone doesn%26#039;t work well and doesn%26#039;t last indefinitely. it is also why dental implants are said to last only 15 years or so and why breast implants have to be changed every 10 yrs. the body encapsulates things that are foreign, keeping it apart from the rest of the body to avoid infection and poisoning. in the case with dental impants and such, the bone grows around the area, but later, because of antibodies the body makes, it pulls away.

but, they are trying to make teeth from our own teeth and have been working on this for years.

Regrowing Teeth

Researchers are finding ways to use stem cells to regrow teeth--a potentially easier and healthier alternative to dentures and dental implants.

By Jennifer Chu

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the average American will lose about eight teeth by the time he or she turns 50. Common replacements include dentures, which have been known to erode the underlying bone over time, and dental implants, which are prone to falling out after several years%26#039; use. Thus, the ability to regrow a natural tooth, with the accompanying bone, root, and nerves, could provide a significantly healthier alternative for many.

Recently, a Japanese team from the Tokyo University of Science, led by associate professor Takashi Tsuji, reported in Nature Methods that it had successfully regrown a tooth from cells extracted from mouse embryos. The researchers were able to transplant the tooth into an adult mouse, and the tooth bud continued to grow to full size.

Teeth in mice, much like those in humans, form during embryonic development from two major cell types: epithelial and mesenchymal. Epithelial cells give rise to the outer enamel, while mesenchymal cells form a tooth%26#039;s inner connective tissue and blood vessels. Takashi%26#039;s team isolated both kinds of cells from multiple mouse embryos, then transferred them to a collagen gel culture, in which the cells interacted to form a tooth bud. Researchers then transplanted the bud into the liver of an adult mouse, where the increased blood supply aided further tooth formation. Finally, Takashi inserted the tooth into an empty cavity within the mouse%26#039;s mouth, in which it grew to full size.

Whether the technique will be practical for regrowing teeth is uncertain. Paul Sharpe, head of the Craniofacial Development Department at King%26#039;s College, in London, doubts that the technique will be useful for humans, particularly since the Tokyo team used embryonic cells, which are difficult to obtain in large numbers and may be rejected as a foreign substance when transplanted into a human adult.

A better approach, Sharpe suggests, may be to use adult stem cells, which can be obtained from a patient%26#039;s hair, skin, or other tissue; manipulated with the right molecular cues to form any kind of tissue; then transplanted back into the same person with less rejection problems.. Sharpe%26#039;s lab is looking for adult stem cells, including those found in bone marrow and dental gum, as possible candidates for regrowing teeth. So far, he and his colleagues have had success with bone-marrow stem cells, forming teeth and transplanting them into mouse cavities. However, Sharpe says that obtaining such cells from human bone marrow is a painful process. In the next three years, he hopes to identify more-accessible stem cells that may be able to form not only teeth, but also--and more important--roots.

%26quot;If you think about it, you are transplanting a tooth under the soft tissue, in the gums,%26quot; says Sharpe. %26quot;That tooth has to erupt and form roots so it%26#039;s connected. If you can%26#039;t form a root, there%26#039;s no point doing any of it.%26quot;

Indeed, a group of researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) recently regrew tooth roots in pigs using adult stem cells from wisdom teeth. The team, led by Songtao Shi, assistant professor of USC%26#039;s School of Dentistry, isolated stem cells from the extracted wisdom teeth of 18-to-20-year-old humans. From these cells, the researchers successfully recreated a tooth%26#039;s root and periodontal ligament, which, when transplanted into the oral cavity of a pig, could support a synthetic crown. Shi says it is a promising start, and his team hopes to begin human trials within the next few years. Eventually, he envisions being able to isolate stem cells from sources such as wisdom teeth, then store them for future use should the patient require dental attention down the line.

In the next few years, Shi, Sharpe, and others anticipate great strides in the area of tooth regeneration. As Sharpe sees it, the work being done in his field may help researchers in other areas of tissue engineering.

%26quot;I like to think that the fact that we are working on an organ where the surgery is easy to do and accessible will mean we can iron out some of the problems more easily in a patient,%26quot; says Sharpe. %26quot;If we do something in a patient and it doesn%26#039;t work, it%26#039;s very easy to correct: the patient just has to come in and open his mouth. If doing that with a liver or a heart, it%26#039;s not quite so easy. So we might prove certain principles of organ engineering.%26quot;

Why monkey no need to brush teeth yet human need?

We (human and monkey) are similar species..yet monkey doesn%26#039;t brush teeth and no gums? What kinda gene make it happen?

Why monkey no need to brush teeth yet human need?
Monkeys eat raw plants and tough fruit, which naturally cleans their teeth. Humans eat soft food which sticks to the teeth and provides a place for bacteria to grow and produce the acid which rots our teeth. Brushing prevents this.

What was the archaeological significance of roman teeth and human remains discovered in pompeii?

Romans practiced cremation instead of burrying the body, so before pompeii was covered by volcanic ash, there was none samples of Roman human remains ever, until they discovered some teeth and remains at the pompeii site. But why are the teeth and remains significant to archaeologists? was it used to tell the age, the sex or the race?

What was the archaeological significance of roman teeth and human remains discovered in pompeii?
Skeletal remains, including teeth, can tell us a great deal about the lives of people. We can establish population profiles of average age, health, nutrition, etc. Certain diseases will leave marks on skeletal remains, allowing an analysis of what sort of diseases affected population.

Chemical analysis of bones can also provide further information about nutrition and diet including, in some cases, what sort of foods were favored.

Race is a cultural construct, not a biological reality. While biological anthropologists who study bones do make %26quot;racial%26quot; determinations based on certain stereotypical features, it tends to be on more of a continuum, and is usually also based on what one expects to find in a certain region.
Reply:They want to see how their health was in general. Dental care, nutrition, etc.
Reply:As I recall, they can tell age, sex and race. They say there was warning that Pompeii was going to erupt and the able-bodied adults got out of town while they left slaves/servants to guard their homes; the remains of children and elderly were found in the ruins of Pompeii.

You can tell a lot about people%26#039;s nutrition and longevity by studying the remains.

Are teeth considered human tissue?

I am doing a science fair project, and need to know if teeth are human tissue so that I can get the correct forms.

Are teeth considered human tissue?
WITHOUT ANY DOUBTS, YES!

TEETH are stuctures made of tissues.

A tooth has enamel, dentin, cementum, and dental pulp. All of those parts are made up of CELLS structure.

%26gt;%26gt; Enamel is formed by epithelial cells.

%26gt;%26gt; Dentin is a living tissue undergoing cell processes from the pulp creating new dentin and mineralizing it.

%26gt;%26gt;Cementum is the bonelike tissue that covers the roots of the teeth in a thin layer.

%26gt;%26gt; The dental pulp is the soft tissue of the tooth, which develops from the connective tissue of the dental papilla.

Reply:Of course, teeth are human tissue. It contains our DNA. Teeth are not bone.
Reply:I would think so...
Reply:I am pretty sure they are.I read an article on the stem cells from baby teeth being used to repair human tissue.
Reply:teeth are %26quot;structures%26quot; made up of four different layers of human tissue:

So teeth are made from human tissue, but are maybe not classed as tissue themselves?! make any sense... I like it how Wiki refers to them as structures the whole way through.

Just like the episode where Ross had the glaring, unnatural suntan when he did not turn at the right times at the fake tan spray booth. Human teeth prove we are herbivores?

I can%26#039;t remember where I read this, it was a long time ago, but I read that the shape, placement, and limited ability of our teeth prove scientifically that we are not meant to eat meat.

Our teeth are flat and dull, ideal for tearing and chewing leaves, and our teeth closely compare to all animals who share our (vegetarian) diets, such as horses, giraffes...ect.

Not to mention the fact that all meat eating animals are able to digest raw meat, while we are unable to. And they have razor sharp teeth made for killing without the use of a weapon and tearing animal flesh.

Any thoughts (besides arguments without proof)? Also, anything to add to this?

Human teeth prove we are herbivores?
Scocasso and mousehet72 are absolutely right.

Human teeth are (and always have been) designed for plant food.

And apes like gorillas, orangutans and chimpanzees survive on plant food.

It is funny how some people admit apes and monkeys are genetically very close to us and give that as a reason for cruel medical testing on these animals - but when it comes to teeth they say we%26#039;re different. They also seem to forget how smart and social these animals are, which results in a great psychological, as well as physical suffering of the poor lab animals.

Not only teeth, also the digestive system of humans is designed for plant food. The enzymes in our stomach and intestines are different to those of carnivorous animals and our intestines are very long and the meat does not only take very long to go through, but also begins decaying within our bodies, before it is secreted.

Humans (as well as Neanderthals, for that matter), had to eat meat to (try to) survive the Ice Age. Luckily, by then they knew how to use fire, so they cold cook the meat - as we cannot digest raw meat very well.

This is proven by the cave paintings - do you know of any human hunting activities before the Ice Age?

Now Ice Age was a kind of a natural catastrophe and special measures had to be taken in order to survive. But humans continue to eat meat!

It is like continuing to take medicine after you got well!

Below is a ling to an article, which says

--- %26quot;African mole rats, which live underground and eat starchy plant organs such as bulbs, have similar chemical signatures in their teeth to those of two ancient hominin species found at the same site, the new research shows. This suggests that they may have had similar diets.%26quot;

--- %26quot;Hominins had teeth like ours, which were designed to eat something really, really hard, like small seeds — not tough grasses or raw meat%26quot;

--- and more

And the second link:

--- %26quot;During the warmer period in Eurasia and in the forests of tropical and subtropical Africa there was no reason to switch to meat. More than 100 food plant species suitable for primates are available in the equatorial forest.%26quot;

--- and more

____

Of course, this debate could go on for days... I hope that, in my answer, I managed to grasp the essence of the matter.

____

EDIT.

OMG how heavy some people are. Those of you who describe our %26quot;incisors%26quot; and the rest of it: I would like to see you bite yourself through fur and skin and then chew raw meat.

Bollocks! Not only our teeth are not designed for that, but we do not have enough strength in our jaws and necks!

Grow up and open your eyes!
Reply:Truthfully,I could care less whether or not someone believes we are herbivorees, omnivores,or carnivores. We can survive perfectly fine without meat and that%26#039;s all that really matters. So many people think that because we are classified as omnivores that means we HAVE to eat meat, they don%26#039;t realize the difference between being able to and having to do something.I do agree that we do sem better suited as herbivores.I%26#039;ve read that human breastmilk is only 5% protein,an animal requiring to eat meat would have a much higher protein content.
Reply:If Darwin is correct we should look at the diets of our nearest wild cousins. I believe it is the orangutan. Just a thought.
Reply:Human teeth prove that we are Omnivores.

%26quot;Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival for life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.%26quot;

Albert Einstein, physicist, Nobel Prize 1921

It is true, that evolution has caused humans to become more dependent on plants than animals. Our teeth point to an omnivorous diet of both plants and animals.

I think that humans, today, eat far to much meat. I wonder if all of the %26quot;I need meat%26quot; people would still need it so badly if they had to hunt for it using homemade tools and their two legs to track the animal. If a person actually researched about the meat industry these days, they would find there is a lot of proof that the costs of raising livestock for slaughter, the affects raising these high numbers of livestock has on the environment, the way meat reacts to most human bodies digestive systems, and a lot more... all point to a cost that far outweighs the benefits of eating the amount of meat consumed.
Reply:We may be able to eat meat, but not very well. We certainly cannot kill our own meat with our own natural tools. Could we even pick up a live rat and bite its head off -- no too tough and our jaws are just not strong enough, especially to tear into a larger animal as say, wolves or lions do. Just look at a dog that%26#039;s the size of a human -- they can crush bones with their jaws (of course they usually bury them and dig up later to make this easier). All meat eaters jaws only move vertically -- they do not move horizontally as they rip and swallow chunks of meat, whereas animals that grind their food before chewing also have lateral as well as vertical movement (not to mention forward and back). Biology 101 will explain all about digestion and how that works in animal as well as humans. Sure, we can digest meat, and eating raw meat is easier to digest for us too (hence the raw meat eaters of the north), but again, eating such food requires tools. Sure, otters use rocks, and chimps use similar tools, but ... spears, knives, fire... I think such tools are far removed from using a rock to smash a nutshell or a coconut. We cannot even run fast enough to catch an animal without tools. Anyway, humans, and all animals are very complex. No one ever mentions all of the vegetation that meat eating animals consume. They do not survive on a 100% meat diet, as humans do not survive on a 100% vegetation diet. We, historically speaking, eat what is available to us and most natural for us to eat. There%26#039;s a reason we have an aversion to killing, blood, etc. and there%26#039;s a reason the screams of an animal in distress do not make our mouths water, so-to-speak. I don%26#039;t know, there are lots of things to support a mostly vegetation diet.

Well, those are my contributions to the topic.
Reply:No, our teeth prove that we are omnivores.

Yes we have flat teeth for grinding, but we don%26#039;t have ONLY those kinds of teeth. He have canines for gripping food and we have incisors for cutting. A human%26#039;s teeth are designed to deal with a wide variety of foods. If you look at an herbivore%26#039;s teeth you%26#039;ll see they are all flat grinding teeth, like our molars. Any claims that human teeth prove we are herbivores is either mistaken, or vegatarian propaganda. We are designed to eat meat, we%26#039;re just not designed to eat only meat.

Sure, we cook our food now, but I%26#039;m sure you%26#039;ve heard of %26quot;steak tartar%26quot;? That%26#039;s raw hamburger, served as dinner.

And our %26quot;claws%26quot; are tools, instead of being built in.
Reply:it%26#039;s just guesswork, it doesn%26#039;t prove anything
Reply:%26quot;Humans are not and have never been carnivores. A lion is a carnivore as is a wolf, as is a tiger, or a shark. Carnivores eat live animals. They stalk them, they run them down, they pounce, they kill, and they eat blood-dripping meat at body temperature. Nature - brutal red in tooth and claw.

I%26#039;ve never met a human that can do that. Yes we found ways to run down animals and kill them. In fact, we%26#039;ve come to be rather efficient at the killing part. But we can%26#039;t eat the prey until we cut it up and cook it - and that usually involves some time between kill and eating. It could be an hour or it could be years.

You see, our meat-eating habits are more closely related to the vulture, the jackal, or other carrion eaters. This means that we can%26#039;t be described as carnivores. We are better described as NECROVORES - or eaters of rotting flesh.%26quot;
Reply:history , ancient books , reality all prove that meat is good type of food for human being. so , I do not agree with such article. with my respect
Reply:We have incisors - the four sharp teeth on either side of our front teeth - used for meat.

Many people, in certain cultures can eat and digest raw meat - Japanese, Italians, for example.

In the Bible there are many examples of people eating and digesting meat - perhaps the earliest is Abraham who ate Rachel%26#039;s goat stew.

True, there were many laws as to how meat could be eaten, but that was down to the fact of preservation, there was no refrigeration in those days, and the weather could be extremely hot. Therefore meat would obviously spoil. Therefore it needed cooking.

Stone age men would eat and digest meat until they discovered fire could change the meat. They have incisors.

Apes, Chimps, Gorillas, Monkeys ...... all have incisors.

So, sorry, but your arguments do not stand up.

Are the food bad for human teeth also bad for cats' teeth ?

Cornell university cat veterinarian encyclopedia says that the mechanism of tooth decay of cats and humans are quite different. I wonder if sugar is bad for cats%26#039; teeth. My cats loves icecream and come to beg when I%26#039;m eating, so I just give them a tiny spoonful, or just put on my finger and let them lick it. I wonder if I should brush their teeth soon after that, and that they shouldn%26#039;t be fed anything like that when I%26#039;m out of town. One of them also likes milk, yogurt etc. I know cats can%26#039;t digest lactose so I don%26#039;t give regular milk so much: just a spoonful. Yogurt doesn%26#039;t have much lactose so she can eat more. I would definitely brush my teeth if i happen to wake up in the middle of night and have a sip of milk. Could anyone please explain me exactly the mechanism of cat tooth decay, and what kind of food are particularly bad ?

Are the food bad for human teeth also bad for cats%26#039; teeth ?
If you feed your cats mostly hard food, then don%26#039;t worry about it...If you feed soft foods mostly, then they won%26#039;t have the friction on their teeth to clean away the plaque.. :-)
Reply:While I don%26#039;t know how cat tooth decay works. I would say that according to my vet we are supposed to brush our cats teeth and sugar will decay any teeth, I%26#039;m sure, calcium and bone is the same in all of us, the same raw material. I think that the reason our deacy rates are different is the different kinds of bacteria in our mouths and different amounts of bacteria present. I would just brush your cats teeth to be on the safe side I don%26#039;t think ever in the wild cats would eat Ice cream or anything other than their mothers milk with that amount of sugar in it, do be careful.
Reply:Feed your cat cat food, not people food--a bite is ok, but don%26#039;t routinely fed people food to cats, as they won%26#039;t get the needed nutritinal balance..Some cats have more trouble with tooth tartar than others, for no known reason, according to my vet. My 8yr calico female, has had 2 full dental scallings %26amp; 3 teeth removed with another scaling due later this year, while my 15 yr male has had 1 %26amp; is doing well. Just like kids..

What is the chemical make up of human teeth?

How would you extract any of the chemicals found in human teeth?

What is the chemical make up of human teeth?
Teeth, like bones, are composed primarily of a mineral compound known as hydroxyapatite. Its structure is

Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2. This is the same material as is found in your bones. There isn%26#039;t much that you can extract from this, as it will dissolve if you add acid to it (which is why drinking very large amounts of carbonated beverages isn%26#039;t good for your teeth). If you do add acid, however, things which over time have gotten absorbed will be released as the hydroxyapatite dissolves.

By the way, the purpose of fluoride toothpaste is that a fluorine atom replaces some of the hydroxyl (the OH) groups in your teeth; this makes them more resistant to acid. The acid, by the way, normally comes from the action of bacteria in your mouth--which is why you should brush your teeth!

There are some other components of teeth like dentin, enamel, etc., but to extract them I think you really have to dissolve the whole tooth in acid.
Reply:Its the same as your other bones. Calcium is the main element I believe.
Reply:milk
Reply:are teeth are made of flouried and cacluim are teeths are more stronger than our bouns so it is diffuicult to extract chemical from human teeth .
Reply:Calcareous, which is composed of, containing, or characteristic of calcium carbonate, calcium, or limestone.

The only thing extractable from a tooth is dental pulp it%26#039;s used as a stem cell. I don%26#039;t think you can remove the chemicals which makes up the tooth.

I'm studying human osteology and want to collect real human teeth. Where can I find them?

I want to collect a complete set of adult human teeth, 32 teeth, for my study.

I%26#039;m studying human osteology and want to collect real human teeth. Where can I find them?
i%26#039;m thinking the dentist... they pull out teeth all the time!
Reply:go to an old folks home
Reply:Call your local dentist. They remove teeth for people about to get dentures. Iam not sure if you can get full sets but you can get singles.
Reply:A baseball bat and a couple of politicians, you can take out two birds with one stone.
Reply:Go to a dentist and ask him to ask him to ask his next patient who wants to get fake teeth put in and their real teeth pulled out if they want to donate them.
Reply:Check the parking lot at a biker bar
Reply:send me you enmail and i%26#039;l send you my lawyers%26#039;s name. you can have his.

You would have to have a volunteer, or see a dentist. all dentists (especially those who rountinely pull teeth as in some dential clinics) have a plentiful supply weekly and I am sur esoemof them would give you some. If you asked for permission or volunteers from his patients.

Just call a lot of them and I am sure one of them will oblidge you.

Some of thse dential clinics specialize in teeth pulling only and always have hundreds a week on hand which they throw out.
Reply:You may have trouble extracting teeth from your local dentist (pun intended). It is still human tissue, and needs to be disposed of in a certain way. Why not have an inprint of your teeth made, that way you will have a compete set, but in plaster. You might also try a dental laboratory, where they make customised mouth guards, they may have a complete plaster set they no longer need.
Reply:The Local Dentist is the best bet he should have old people visiting him for dentures put your requirement early and he should oblige.
Reply:It is all about competitive pricing. offer more than the tooth fairy and I am sure you can have as many teeth as you want. maybe go through a fourth grade teacher or something
Reply:Assuming you are doing an in-depth study, your best and really only options are to a) %26quot;borrow%26quot; a set from medical libraries or b) buy them yourself. Medical and chiropractic schools have sets of bones, including full sets of teeth, that are donated by people who choose donate their body to science after they die. In learning centers or libraries of these programs they have teeth on reserve that you can %26quot;sign out%26quot; like books and study. The latter option is to buy a set yourself online from medical catalogs that are ridiculously expensive (yes, they are legal and do exist.) Collecting one or two teeth from your friends is probably not going to help you much.
Reply:Depends on how long u can wait. Meanwhile leave me ur postal address.

Where can I buy human teeth?

For a costume piece I%26#039;m working on I need a whole pile of human teeth, whether real or fake. Real would be cool, but that might be a little sketch / disgusting. Either way, where would I be able to purchase said teeth?

Thank you!

Where can I buy human teeth?
Ask %26quot;can I buy your little tooth%26quot; to your youngest family who has a loss tooth! Collect it and stick them together as a shape of what you wanted.
Reply:from the tooth fairy....
Reply:Party City.
Reply:EBAY!!!

Reply:I would try some place that makes dentures. I am not sure about teeth but I think its illegal to possess parts of the human anatomy.
Reply:u can buy it from me..$1 each tooth..if u r wondering where i fetch them from, thn its from my basement where i have murdered and stalked all those people who ask stupid questions on yahoo
Reply:GOOGLE DENTAL SUPPLY COMPANIES AND SEARCH FOR A TYPHODONT WHERE THE PLASTIC TEETH MAY BE REMOVED.

ACTUAL HUMAN TEETH ARE CATEGORIZED AS BIOLOGIC WASTE AND CANNOT BE PURCHASED.
Reply:a good idea would be to go at some dentist and ask, that way you may even get%26#039;em for free...
Reply:Okay...eeewww!!

Now that I%26#039;ve gotten that out, please know that extracted teeth are now considered a biohazard so you really can%26#039;t get them. Hmmm...unless you go Dumpster diving into the Hazardous Waste bin...you didn%26#039;t hear that from ME!

Can I brush my dog's teeth with human tooth paste?

Ive always brushed his teeth with the tooth paste the vet gave me but its just not working. He as acid reflux probelms and he is being treated for that but he breathe stinks!

Ive tried chicken flavored, Ive tried mint flavored

nothing is working

Ive also been giving him dog treats for his breath

like parsley flavored treats and yip yap mints

and i feed him bland vet food for his food allergies

at first i thought it was bad teeth but the vet checked them out

and his teeth are fine

so my last resort, that i know of, is human tooth paste.

i know that it is not recommended because of the baking soda or something...

but i dont know what else to do

Can I brush my dog%26#039;s teeth with human tooth paste?
Human toothpaste has Fluoride in it, which is poisonous to dogs.

If he has acid reflux, then no toothbrushing in the world is going to save his breath. The smell is not coming from his teeth, it%26#039;s coming from his stomach.

What you need to do to correct this problem and make him feel better is to switch his food. He doesn%26#039;t need to be put on a bland food, just food without the allergy causing agent in it

Try California Natural. It has very few ingredients, so that way you can pinpoint what it is exactly he is allergic to.

Reply:its not a good idea. the flouride content might be too high. speak to your vet. there are loads of oral healthcare products for animals out there x
Reply:You%26#039;re right, human tooth paste is not right for the dog. If you absolutely have to, get gause on your finger, put a pea size amount of tooth paste on it, and just brush. It will be fine if it is washed out with water.
Reply:No, please don%26#039;t use human toothpaste. You could try using those %26quot;Greenies%26quot; bones. That helps his breath.

Is he on Pepcid or anything along those lines?
Reply:No. It has too much sodium, plus it foams and your dog can%26#039;t rinse and spit. Swallowing too much is harmful (for people, too, hence the warning on the packaging).

If you have done all of these things and his breath is still that bad, there is something else wrong. Has the vet checked his kidneys? His liver? Anything besides his teeth?
Reply:no be good to your pets
Reply:Nope. I%26#039;ve always been told not to use human toothpaste.

Dr. Fosters and Smith has an oral rinse they sell. It%26#039;s pink or red and they call it Dental Cleanser. I give it to my dog. There%26#039;s quite a few products on this page:
Reply:NO!!!!! Do not use human tooth paste!!!!

It could also just be the breed of the dog.

ummm...I guess that the best you could do is get them cleaned by your vet or groomer and give the dog, dog treats for its teeth not just for the bed breath and see if that helps any.
Reply:Have you considered that it might not be his teeth causing him the bad breath, but his food?

Try to change him over to a High Quality food available at a Feed Store (Like Wellness, Innova, Canidae, etc.).
Reply:Human toothpaste has several ingredients (chemicals) that should not be swallowed! And dogs won%26#039;t spit it out :^) - they will always swallow it.

For the health of your dog - stick to dog toothpaste.
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t try with human toothpaste at all. If the dog doesn%26#039;t like his toothpaste, I would say just use water and the brush. My dogs get dry food mainly, and wet food as a treat (wet food causes really bad breath) and I give them lots of Milkbones (real ones, not no name) They really help to keep their teeth clean and cut down on the stink.
Reply:Floride will upset the dog%26#039;s stomach. That is why it is not recommended. Actually, if you look Floride up on the net, you won%26#039;t want it for yourself either.

Vinegar , just a little, in his food will help with the acid reflux just like it would with a human.
Reply:No you can%26#039;t use people tooth paste on dogs. We aren%26#039;t even supposed to accidently swallow it and you know your dog will injest some of it. I give my dogs cinna-bones. I ge them from my local health food store. Also, I put 6 drops of colloidal silver (30 ppm) on their treats. Look up colloidal silver it has so many health benefits. My male jack russell has a sensitive stomach and bad gas all of the time, well since the colloidal silver he rarely has gas. Also, my parents dog has permanent bodily yeast and bacterial infection, he smells really bad, and his eyes get infected all of the time and goo up. My parents started giving him colloidal silver on his treats, a quirt in the mouth from the dropper, and rub it on him after a bath. He doesn%26#039;t smell anymore and doesn%26#039;t really itch, it%26#039;s amazing. Colloidal Silver is what doctors put in babies%26#039; eyes right after they are born just in case the mother had an std or some other infection. Good luck!
Reply:You already know it%26#039;s not good for him, why would you risk using it?

If his teeth are clean with little to no plaque, then the problem might lay elsewhere. You said he has reflux problems, that could be where the problem is. Let your vet know and tell him what you have tried to eliminate the problem. He could have a simple suggestion you haven%26#039;t tried to help ease the problem.
Reply:Not a good idea, but if you are gonna use human toothpaste, get some that doesn%26#039;t have fluoride, like toddler toothpaste.
Reply:the reason for no human paste is that ours has detergents in it that can be harmful if swallowed esp. in larger amounts. which is the purpose in training toothpastes for kids. like the little bear brand, which is what i would do if i had to. however i would also schedule a tooth cleaning with the vet, and get oravet if the budget allows for it. my dachsie is good, but my manchester gets terrible breath, so i sympathize!
Reply:no there is dog toothpaste =) check at petsmart!!

Are human teeth supposed to be perfectly straight?

I have never seen anyone with teeth that are perfectly straight that hasn%26#039;t had braces and that made me wonder are human teeth supposed to be straight.

In other species you don%26#039;t see their teeth going straight across

Are human teeth supposed to be perfectly straight?
Well not everyones teeth is straight my teeth are messed up you can get braces and it will work !
Reply:it depends on genes and how tehre parents took care of their teeth and how the person took care of tehre teeth like did they suck on bottle to long etc suck there thumb till they were 8 etc. But u say perfectly straight, no i doubt that a lot .but all the teeth shouldn%26#039;t be so crooked eitehr u know. Its the truth, so i get a thumbs up!!!
Reply:The percentage of people born with naturally straight even teeth is very low over all. However, straight and even teeth do not mean that a persons teeth aren%26#039;t balanced and in very good health. Your first priority is to have the teeth you have as healthy as possible and that requires a good system of oral hygiene. While it%26#039;s true that family genes can play a big part in the health and longevity of a person teeth, bad genes and DNA can be pretty well over come with proper oral care and regular Dental exams. As for braces and realignment of not so pretty teeth, the truth is that even then you may not end up with what you thought you would get and in some cases the results fails after a period of time because some people don%26#039;t wear their life long night retainers regularly and practice extra special oral hygiene. All natural straight and Crooked teeth have tiny ligaments attached to them and when the crooked ones get straightened the tiny ligaments get twisted in the process. The problem is that those little ligaments have a memory and they never give up trying to go back to their original position. If a person fails to regularly wear the retainer after the braces are removed the ligaments will attempt to pull the teeth back to their original position.
